WASHINGTON – Using public transportation to get around on this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday could prove to be tricky.

On Metro, trains open at 5 a.m., close at midnight, and operate on a Saturday schedule. Off-peak fares will be in effect, and parking at all Metro facilities will be free.

Buses will run on their Saturday supplemental schedule. Metro says some post- midnight trips will be canceled on certain routes.

MetroAccess service operates on its normal hours. However, unless specifically requested, subscription trips will be canceled.

The Maryland Transit Administration says MARC trains will operate on a Sunday schedule on the Penn Line only. The Camden and Brunswick lines will both be out of service.

Light rail and local buses are both on weekday schedules. There is no service on commuter buses, except for Route 201 – which will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule.

MTA’s transportation service will honor standing rides and subscription trips.

Virginia Railway Express trains will be on its S schedule.

Loudoun County’s Commuter Bus, Montgomery County’s Bus Ride-On Bus, and the Fairfax Connector will all operate on modified holiday schedules.

The only service on Arlington Transit buses are on routes 41, 42, 51, 77 and 87. They’ll operate on Saturday schedules.
