WASHINGTON – There’s a new pocket guide for pet owners offered by an agency trained in responding to emergencies.
For pet owners who worry they’ll need help on hand if their pet is suddenly injured or ill, the Red Cross is offers the Pet First Aid App that helps diagnose and treat some common pet injuries.
It offers suggestions on what to do if a pet has been in the heat or cold too long, is burned or is tossed around the car after a fender bender.
Pet owners can upload important information to have on hand if they’re rushing to the veterinarian, like their pet’s tag ID numbers, pictures and a list of medications.
The app costs 99 cents and is available for Android and Apple devices.
It offers step-by-step instructions, videos and images for more than 25 common first aid and emergency situations including how to treat wounds, control bleeding, and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies.”
Other features of the app:
- A list of early warning signs to learn when to call the veterinarian
- A “click-to-call” feature to contact the veterinarian
- Find emergency pet care facilities or alternate vets with the animal hospital locator
- Locate pet-friendly hotels
