Va. public school employee charged with embezzlement

WASHINGTON — A Fairfax County Public Schools employee has been charged with two counts of embezzlement for allegedly stealing laptops, refurbishing them and selling the computers online, officials say.

Craig Soderberg, 60, of Alexandria, Va., was arrested after police conducted a three-month investigation. Police say they removed more than 1,200 computers, which were taken from a Springfield warehouse, from his home Jan. 9.

Soderberg has been a Fairfax County Public Schools employee since 1998 and was promoted to coordinator of warehouse operations in 2000, a school district spokesman says.

He was placed on administrative leave and subsequently submitted a letter of resignation.
