WASHINGTON – A least 10 vehicles struck debris on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway near Georgia Avenue Monday, leaving many of them with flat tires.
Maryland State Police say the debris apparently came from a truck that had driven through the area, shortly before 6 a.m. Monday.
The incident caused major backups on the Beltway as authorities responded.
Crews removed the debris by 7:45 a.m.

Jose Martinez says he struck a board, which caused two flat tires and may have damaged the axle of his vehicle.
Authorities have not released information about the nature of the debris. No one sustained injuries in the incident.
In a separate development earlier in the morning, a pair of accidents near Triangle, Va., caused major delays for commuters on northbound Interstate 95.
