Van Hollen To Help Vietnam Vet Get Silver Star

Silver Star Medal, via WikipediaVietnam War veteran George Carlton Bloodworth was awarded the Silver Star for his valor during combat. But he never received the actual medal.

On Thursday, after Bloodworth’s daughter contacted Rep. Chris Van Hollen’s office (D), Bloodworth will finally get his medal. Bloodworth’s daughter lives in Van Hollen’s Eighth Congressional District.

Van Hollen and Brigadier Jeffrey Clark, commander of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, will present Bloodworth wih the medal at 10 a.m. in Rockville.

It’s the Army’s third highest honor. It’s estimated that between 100,000 and 150,000 Silver Stars have been awarded since it was established in 1932.
