WASHINGTON — On this Christmas Eve, the staff of WTOP brings you history’s most reprinted newspaper editorial.

In 1897, 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon wrote a letter to the editor of New York’s Sun asking Santa if is real. The newspaper responded with an editorial assuring the little girl that St. Nick is not just in the storybooks.
