WASHINGTON – Montgomery County Public Schools could grow by as many as 11,000 new students over the next six years, and more space will be needed to accommodate them.

So MCPS Superintendent Dr. Joshua Starr is proposing a $1.55 billion capital improvements program.

According to a news release from MCPS, the school system has seen an additional 14,000 students over the past six years with most of that growth taking place at elementary schools. The five-year construction plan would include 14 new classroom addition projects, five new schools and would keep most plans in place for schools already scheduled on for renovations.

The Board of Education will review the plan at 6 p.m. Nov. 7.
