Blog: Choices limited as default nears (Audio)

WASHINGTON – Whatever Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell come up with it must pass the House where there’s still a take “no prisoners” attitude on the part of the GOP Tea Party brigade and their allies.

Additionally, the Tea Party actually sees this crisis as a great time to push demands for more spending cuts and concessions on Obamacare.

While deadlines for extending U.S. borrowing power and shuttering federal agencies put some lawmakers in a cold sweat, these hard-charging folks see them as opportunities not to be ignored — whatever the risk.

If Speaker John Boehner can’t convince this crowd that a Senate deal is the best they’re going to get, he risks going over the cliff with them — or facing a revolt in the GOP ranks.

Those aren’t great choices as a showdown nears on midnight Wednesday.
