WASHINGTON – The debate over the Washington Redskins name is coming to the classroom.
ABC7 reports a student at Woodrow Wilson High School in Northwest D.C. approached the school’s principal, Pete Cahall, and said she felt the school should ban Redskins clothing because the name is offensive to Native Americans.
“We are enforcing the ‘dress code’ strictly this year and she felt it should be a part of the dress code,” Cahall wrote in an email to ABC7.
Cahall said he plans to discuss with his school’s student council officers the idea of prohibiting Redskins clothing at school.
“As you know, Wilson is a very diverse school community (which) embraces our diversity and people’s differences,” Cahall wrote.
The discussion will take place in a few weeks, according to Fox 5 reporter Matt Ackland:
