Tips to avoid a spooky trip to pop-up Halloween stores

WASHINGTON – Fright night 2013 is nearly here, but beware of frightening things when you head to a Halloween pop-up stores.

Sure, we all like scary-good deals, and these pop-up stores can offer tempting deals on costumes, decorations and candy.

But Consumer Reports says keep a few things in mind:

  • Check the return policy: Make sure you know what you can return and if it will cost you.
  • Check the merchandise: Don’t buy without looking at the product up close.
  • Pay with a credit card: It’s easier to dispute charges on your credit card.
  • Check out the clearance sales: You can get some serious markdowns on Nov. 1.
