Ford’s Theatre moves shows to nearby church

WASHINGTON – Ford’s Theatre has been closed to all visitors as a result of the federal shutdown, but the show will go on.

The theatre announced it will present two free performances of The Laramie Project at nearby First Congregational United Church of Christ to make up for the cancellation of the show through Oct. 6.

The free show will be held 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4 and Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The church is located one block from Ford’s Theatre at 945 G Street NW.

Tickets will be available at the door each night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ford’s Theatre, the museum and Petersen House are closed to visitors during the federal government shutdown.

Even though Ford’s Theatre Society does not use federal funding or federal workers, it operates through a private-public partnership between the society and the National Park Service.

Due to the shutdown, the society cannot access the Ford’s Theatre Historic site for performances.
