Will There Be Local Businesses In The New White Flint? — The answer is hopefully later, at least in the Pike & Rose redevelopment at Mid-Pike Plaza. The businesses announced for the first phase of the project are so far mostly large chains or based out-of-town. Small local businesses in new town center-style developments are risky, both for the business and land developer. Evan Goldman, in charge of Pike & Rose for Rockville-based developer Federal Realty, predicted more local businesses would arrive in the second wave of leasing. [Friends of White Flint]

Cops To Show Support For New Cell Phone Law — The chiefs of Montgomery County’s law enforcement agencies and sheriff will talk about their support for the state’s new law restricting use of cell phones while driving. Law enforcement officers will gather with local politicians at a press conference this morning to emphasize there will be no warning period. Enforcement will begin on Tuesday.
