Backstage: Country, rock, blues and reggae — all in one weekend

WASHINGTON – According to the Ticketmaster website, the hip-hop festival, “Rock the Bells” has been canceled.

Luckily, there are several other notable D.C. region concerts scheduled over the weekend.

Tonight at the Birchmere, the Official Blues Brothers Revue brings their “Dan Akroyd-endorsed” show to the stage.

Expect a big band blasting Chicago blues — Complete with two very convincing “Jake and Ellwood” lookalikes in the spotlight.

Also scheduled for tonight, reggae legend Jimmy Cliff brings his band to the Howard Theatre.

Saturday at Jiffy Lube Live, modern country fans won’t want to miss Rascal Flatts and The Band Perry.

The Band Perry might steal the show — their blend of country, bluegrass, and rock influences has earned them a huge fanbase.

Also scheduled for Saturday, Led Zeppelin cover band, Get the Led Out takes the stage at the Fillmore Silver Spring. Sunday night at the 9:30 Club, indie vets Superchunk are scheduled to show off songs from their most recent album, “Majesty Shredding” along with favorites from their more than 20-year career.
