Police: Va. man killed after striking tree at ‘excessive speed’

WASHINGTON — A 32-year-old Fairfax man was killed Wednesday after crashing his car into a tree on Popes Head Road, police say.

Richard Walker, of Fairfax Woods Way, was driving westbound near the Fairfax County Parkway shortly before 2 p.m. when he approached a curve at “excessive speed,” say Fairfax County police.

Walker was not able to handle the curve, running off the right side of the road and crashing into a tree.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after.

Police believe Walker was not wearing his seat belt.
