WASHINGTON — The woman police say splattered green paint inside the National Cathedral in July was found incompetent to stand trial at a hearing on Wednesday.

Jaimei Tian, 58, was not present in D.C. Superior Court where doctors from St. Elizabeth’s, D.C.’s psychiatric hospital where Tian is a patient, recommended she receive a “full compentency evaluation,” reports The Washington Post.

Tian was arrested Jul 29 at the National Cathedral soon after officials discovered fresh paint on woodwork and an organ in two separate chapels. At the time of her arrest, Tian was carrying a soda can full of green paint, authorities said.

She was charged with defacing and destroying private property.

Green paint was found on several D.C. landmarks, including the Lincoln Memorial, over a period of several days, the cathedral being the last target. Tian is suspected in those crimes, but has not been charged.

Tian, who carries a Chinese passport and requires a Mandarin translator, is in the U.S. on an expired visa, authorities said.

At Wednesday’s hearing, Tian’s lawyer, a District public defender, asked she be released from the hospital to undergo further evaluations, reports the Post.

The judge declined the request and ordered another examination.

Another hearing is scheduled for Oct. 31.
