WASHINGTON – The controversial Bi-County Parkway could come under review from Congress.

Rep. Rob Bishop, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation, wants to review the project.

The parkway covers 10 miles between Prince William and Loudoun counties and cuts through Manassas National Battlefield Park.

The call by Bishop, R-Utah, for a review is sparking responses from local lawmakers.

“This is Manassas National Battlefield, so I think they have a legitimate perogative to come and ask questions about this project,” said Fairfax Del. Tim Hugo.

“[It’s] the right thing to do, and we appreciate Congressman Bishop taking the time to take a look at this,” he said.

The National Park Service wants to shut down Va. 234 and slow traffic on U.S. 29 in exchange for some land for the proposed highway. The Virginia Department of Transportation said the parkway is needed to handle increased north and southbound traffic.
