UPDATED: MoCo Capital Bikeshare Grand Opening Set For Next Friday

Bikeshare at Veterans ParkUPDATED 4:05 p.m. The grand opening for Capital Bikeshare in Montgomery County will could be Friday, Sept. 27 in Rockville, according to the consultant who is helping the county install the system.

MetroBike’s Paul DeMaio announced the opening date via Twitter on Thursday afternoon (That tweet was apparently taken down about a half-hour after this post went up). DeMaio said it was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Maryland and Montgomery Avenues in Rockville, near the county courthouse complex and Rockville Town Square.

Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation has been busy installing some stations around Bethesda, Silver Spring and Rockville, but the grand opening must wait until County Executive Isiah Leggett and a delegation of county officials returns from a trip to China.

MCDOT has installed three stations in Bethesda: at the Bethesda Avenue public parking garage on Bethesda Row, at the intersection of Cordell and Norfolk Avenues in Woodmont Triangle and at Norfolk Avenue at Veterans Park.

Bethesda and Chevy Chase will have 15 stations when it’s all said and done. Some minor adjustments remain.

Last week, DeMaio was at the Bethesda Metro station plaza measuring out a new spot for a 19-dock station. The original site for the station, near a batch of newspaper boxes, was determined to include too much of a slope.
