WASHINGTON – Alexandria Police are warning residents of several safety precautions they can take after a woman was almost abducted Sept. 9.

Police say a 23-year-old woman was grabbed from behind near the King Street Metro Station as she was walking home just before 10 p.m.

A man forced her to a wall near the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, but she fought him off and was able to escape. There were no injuries, police say.

The suspect, who fled on foot, is described as a black male, 5 feet and 5 inches tall and wearing a ball cap and a black and white striped shirt with tan shoes.

To protect others from more incidents like this, police are reminding people to be more aware of their surroundings, carry a cell phone and not use headphones while walking alone.
