WASHINGTON — Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s visit to Maryland next week is billed as an effort to attract more business to the Lone Star State.
With no personal income tax, Texas is filled with opportunities for families and small businesses, the governor will argue.
“When you grow tired of Maryland taxes squeezing every dime out of your business, think Texas, where we’ve created more jobs than all the other states combined,” Perry, a Republican, says a series of ads that have been running on television and on WTOP.
Maryland will be the sixth state to hear from the Texas governor. His office vows to continue sharing that state’s economic success story around the country.
But Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is shrugging off the visit as a public relations stunt.
In a statement released earlier this week, he highlighted Maryland’s own achievements.
“Maryland has had the No. 1 public schools in the nation for five years in a row,” he says.
