Power outages throughout the region

WASHINGTON – Some D.C. area residents are still in the dark early Friday morning after storms across the region knocked out power for many utility customers Thursday evening.

Below is a breakdown of the numbers:

  • Pepco: More than 800 outages, all of which are in Montgomery County.
  • BGE: About 100, with a majority in Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties.
  • Dominion: Almost all customer are back online. There are less than 10 outages in Northern Virginia.

A thunderstorm watch for the WTOP listening area expired at about 9:20 p.m. Thursday.

Air traffic from Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport was temporarily suspended Thursday afternoon because of a possible lighting strike. Flights resumed early Friday morning.

If you need the number to your utility company, text “power” to 91035 and WTOP will text them back to you.
