Elrich Will Press Ahead With Minimum Wage Bill, Even Without Co-sponsors — So far, no one on the Montgomery County Council has expressed support for Councilmember Marc Elrich’s proposal to raise the county’s minimum wage from the federal $7.25 per hour to $12 per hour. Elrich said the bill could offset much of the $253 million the county spends on health and human services, much of which is dedicated to subsidize basic needs for lower-income residents. Animal Shelter Wants Adopters For Unpopular Black Cats — Black cats get a bad rap because of “undeserved myths,” according to the Montgomery County Humane Society, which says the black cats are the least likely animal to be adopted in shelters. Town of Chevy Chase Rescue Squad Public Hearing Pushed To October — The Town of Chevy Chase will hold a public hearing on a funding request from the BCC Rescue Squad during its Oct. 9 Town Council meeting. The president of the Rescue Squad, who lives in the Town, is asking for $500,000 to fund two new ambulances. The Town has an $8 million surplus.
