DC Brau among country’s fastest-growing breweries

WASHINGTON – As the D.C. craft beer craze continues to soar, one local brewery is outpacing the competition.

DC Brau ranks No. 5 in The Street’s list of “10 Fastest-Growing Craft Breweries in the U.S.”

The website says DC Brau’s growth rate is 195 percent, going from 1,698 barrels in 2011 to 5,002 in 2012.

In December, DC Brau announced that it would ramp up production even more in 2013. They aimed to produce 12,000 barrels annually, a move intended to cement DC Brau as the go-to regional brew.

Other breweries that made the list are: Fort George Brewery, 10 Barrel Brewing, Elysian Brewing, Mother’s Brewing, Boneyard Beer, Golden Road Brewing, Austin Beerworks, Karbach Brewing and Blackstone Brewery.

In other beer news, the Heurich House Museum is hosting an Oktoberfest celebration Sept. 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include unlimited Heavy Seas Beer such as its award-winning Cutlass Amber, Loose Cannon Hop3 IPA, Small Craft Warning Uber Pils and AARGHtoberfest. Traditional German food will be provided by Cafe Berlin.
