LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun County’s top prosecutor says he will not file charges against a homeowner who fatally shot a 16-year-old neighbor who drunkenly entered the wrong home by mistake.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman announced the decision Tuesday. He said he won’t issue a detailed report on the March shooting out of respect for the teen’s family.
Caleb Gordley of Sterling died from a gunshot to the back of his shoulder. His family said he sneaked out of the house and went drinking with friends. Walking home, he mistakenly entered a home two doors down from his own by crawling through a window.
The decision against pursuing criminal charges is not unexpected. The sheriff’s office had said previously that the homeowner gave verbal warnings and fired a warning shot before firing at Caleb.
