Sex assault trial against former officer postponed; 2nd victim comes forward

WASHINGTON – The sexual assault trial of a former police officer has been postponed after a second victim came forward.

Joseph Ruhren, 42, also used to own the popular JoJo’s Ice Cream stand in Dumfries. Ruhren sold JoJo’s last November.

Ruhren is accused of assaulting a boy more than a decade ago.

The charges stem from allegations that he began sexually abusing the 12-year-old victim when Ruhren was a Dumfries police officer.

Ruhren’s trial Monday was postponed after prosecutors indicated a second victim — also a man — has come forward.

The case will go back to a grand jury, which will consider new charges against Ruhren.
