WASHINGTON – Plans are plowing ahead for the proposed Purple Line and residents are being asked to sound off – not about whether they want the new train to run through Bethesda, but which route they prefer.

Planners are looking to demolish the Apex building in the 7200 block of Wisconsin Avenue and in its place build a new plaza center with connections to the light rail system.

That would knock the Capital Crescent Trail off its current course. So planners will hold an open house for residents to see the proposed changes, which include running the trail through a tunnel. Residents can also weigh in on the plan.

The open house is scheduled for Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center on Edgemoor Lane.

But that’s not the only thing residents can sound off about: The environmental impact study for the Purple Line is finished and now available for public review.

The study details which homes and businesses would be destroyed to run the east-west light rail line between Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.
