WASHINGTON – It began as a way to raise money for the community and now it’s the place to be during the holiday weekend. So what makes Prince George’s County’s Greenbelt Labor Day Festival unique?
Miss Greenbelt USA Jasmine Powell who will be representing Greenbelt, Md., in the Miss Maryland Pageant this November says this festival is a celebration that has been happening for 59 years
“It’s for residents and friends that come out and have fun. The info booth gives people a little bit more information about local organizations. And obviously the kids can enjoy the rides. So it’s a lot of fun over the long weekened,” she says.
What started in 1955 as a way to raise money to build a youth center has turned into a four-day event that includes amusement rides, carnival games, live entertainment, an art show and a Labor Day Parade.
Admission to the festival grounds is free but some activities do charge a fee. The festival will be held Aug. 30 – Sept. 2. at the Roosevelt Center at 101 Centerway in Greenbelt, Md.
