Viral video pokes fun at smartphone obsession

WASHINGTON – In her short film “I Forgot My Phone” director and star Charlene deGuzman captures how obsessed many of us are with recording what we’re doing on smartphones – documenting life, instead of living it.

In her Tumblr, deGuzman acknowledges the video is based on her own preoccupation with a mobile device.

“It’s not until very recently that I’ve discovered the joy in being in the moment – listening to people, looking at faces, expressions, details, looking at the colors of things, smelling smells, tasting food – and it’s not until now that I’ve realized that everyone – including me – is on their phones,” writes deGuzman.

In her blog, deGuzman encourages smartphone users to practice living in the moment.

“There is a moment happening right in front of you, right this second, and you’re missing it,” deGuzman writes.

The 2:11 video had more than 14 million views on YouTube Friday morning.
