Passenger dies in crash that closes BW Parkway

WASHINGTON – A passenger died in a one-vehicle crash that closed the Baltimore-Washington Parkway at Route 198 for about two hours Thursday morning.

The crash, which occurred at about 6 a.m., closed the southbound lanes of the parkway. They reopened at about 8 a.m. after officials predicted the lanes would be closed through rush hour.

Officials say the vehicle overturned and caused a female passenger’s death.

Emergency crews transported the passenger and the driver to an area hospital, but the passenger died from her injuries. The driver sustained minor injuries, according to officials.

Authorities have not released the names of the passenger who died or the driver. Officials are working to determine what caused the accident.

Traffic was detoured onto 198 as officials investigated the accident.
