WASHINGTON – An Annandale, Va., youth was stopped at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Monday after an officer using an X-ray machine spotted a gun in his carry-on bag.

Transportation Security Administration officials contacted Maryland Transportation Authority Police, who confiscated the air-powered pellet gun and permitted the youth to catch his flight to Germany.

Officials did not provide the youth’s age, only saying he is a minor.

TSA officials remind travelers that weapons, including replica firearms such as pellet guns and air guns, are not allowed in carry-on bags. They can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
