Olinguito serenaded in new YouTube video

WASHINGTON – It’s not very often that a new, furry creature is discovered. In fact, the now-famous olinguito is the first new mammal to be identified in the Americas in 35 years.

But it only took a few hours for a song to surface on YouTube in honor of the beady-eyed mammal native to the trees of Ecuador.

“An Ode to the Olinguito” opens with the same question we all asked ourselves when the discovery was announced:

“What are you? I’ve never seen you before,” croons the singer.

“I eat figs and insects, plant nectar sometimes,” answers the olinguito.
