Buffett, Backstreet, Thievery Corporation among weekend shows

WASHINGTON – This weekend’s best-bet concerts are divided between local favorites and stadium events.

Friday night at the 9:30 Club, the District’s own Thievery Corporation continues a three-night run.

The group’s kitchen-sink approach to their electronic-based music has recruited fans worldwide, but their hometown performances are always highly anticipated. Case in point, their Saturday night appearance at the 9:30 was recently added because of demand.

Also Friday night at IOTA Club and Cafe, Olivia and the Mates are scheduled to perform a pre-EP-release set. Admission is only $10.

Jiffy Lube Live dominates the rest of the weekend with Friday’s Uproar Festival tour, headlined by Alice In Chains and Jane’s Addiction.

Saturday at Jiffy Lube Live, “Parrotheads” will come out of the woodwork to see Jimmy Buffett perform. Buffett’s latest album, “Songs From St. Somewhere,” is his 27th studio release.

Backstreet Boys took over the boy-band spotlight 20 years ago, but they can still sell albums. Their latest release peaked at No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart.

The group performs Sunday at Jiffy Lube Live.
