Ukefest 2013 Tonight At Strathmore

Tonight is Strathmore’s festival and outdoor concert celebrating the ukulele, the annual event that invites participants to play and briefly earned a Guinness World Record.

UkeFest 2011 included 946 players, crowd members and performers included, strumming and singing “This Land Is Your Land” for the world record for Largest Ukulele Ensemble. (A group in Switzerland took the record over with more than 1,500 uke players.)

UkeFest 2013 starts today at 7 p.m. outdoors at the Strathmore (5301 Tuckerman Lane), though there will be a Community Strum-Along from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Parking for the free event will cost $5 in the Metro garage across the street. Bring blankets and low beach chairs and any old instruments. Strathmore’s partner Hungry for Music will be accepting donations of used instruments.

Uke performers Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, who led the world record uke playing ensemble, and Gerald Ross, Lil’ Rev, Stuart Fuchs and The Hula Honeys will be on hand to lead the crowd.
