Rapper Nas raises $29K to help D.C. family

WASHINGTON – Rapper Nas has helped raise thousands of dollars for a D.C. father who lost his house to a fire two weeks ago.

ABC 7 reports that the musician’s help is in response to the station’s story about single father Stanley Young and his eight children. They are currently staying in a hotel and are looking for a new home.

“I am also a single father, and we don’t get enough credit in this country. I’m committed to helping Stanley and his eight (yes 8!) kids. Moreover, I believe and hope that we should all, as a community, come together to help our fellow American men and women when they need us in desperate situations like this. See if you can’t find a few dollars to help the Youngs get back on their feet with me,” Nas wrote on the crowdtilt.com page he set up to collect funds for the family.

He pledged to double his $5,000 contribution if the site raised at least $20,000. As of Thursday evening, Nas had raised slightly more than $29,000.
