Juvenile shot in Southeast D.C. robbery attempt

WASHINGTON (AP) — D.C. police say a man who shot a juvenile in the arm during a robbery attempt later pointed an AK-47 at an off-duty officer.

Police say the officer fired his service weapon in the incident on 34th Street Southeast on Wednesday night, but missed.

Department spokesman Officer Anthony Clay says the armed man dropped the assault rifle and drove off with two other men. He says the car crashed near Eastern Avenue and all three were arrested.

Police say the wounded youth was taken to a hospital but was not seriously injured.
