WASHINGTON – Strong sales nationwide have boosted the Powerball jackpot again ahead of Wednesday’s drawing.

The Maryland and Virginia lotteries have announced that Wednesday night’s jackpot will be $425 million with a $244.7 million cash option.

No one won the Powerball after Saturday night’s drawing when $300 million was up for grabs.

The midweek jackpot remains below the record $590.5 million jackpot won in May. But it would be the third-largest Powerball jackpot ever and the fourth-largest lottery prize on record.

Strong sales nationwide have boosted the jackpot this week, the Virginia Lottery says.

The jackpot is not expected to increase before Wednesday’s drawing, according to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.

Monday the jackpot was predicted to be $400 million.
