WASHINGTON – A 56-year-old Manassas man killed himself on Thursday morning after police attempted to serve him with warrants.

Douglas Clayton Lewis was leaving his home in the 9500 block of Covington Place around 6:30 a.m. when federal agents approached him, Prince William County police say. Prince William police, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations were involved in the effort.

Lewis ignored commands by the agents and fled down an alleyway between two townhomes, police say. When agents confronted Lewis in the alley, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the agents. One of them responded by shooting him in the lower body, police say.

Lewis then ran behind a fence area where he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police say. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

No other injuries were reported. Prince William County police detectives will be investigating the death.

A spokesman for Homeland Security Investigations says the warrant service was related to child pornography charges.
