Va. man charged in infant’s death

WASHINGTON — A 40-year-old Stafford County man was charged in the death of an infant after authorities say he inflicted significant head trauma to the young boy.

Duc Chau, of Stafford, Va., was charged with first degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding and child abuse after he called emergency services on July 13 to report a 17-month-old child under his care had fallen on a tile floor when he was running to get a bottle of milk, says the Stafford County Sheriff’s office.

The infant was taken to a hospital, then flown to another hospital for further care, but died two days later. Deputies investigated the death and determined the serious nature of the injuries were inconsistent with such a fall. A grand jury indicted Chau, who had been babysitting the boy at the time.

The ongoing investigation has found Chau caused significant head trauma to the boy. Authorities did not release further details.
