Central Farm Markets, Others Recognized For National Farmers Market Week

Central Farm Market co-founder Mitch Berliner and his wife Debra Moser were part of a group of county farmers markets that got special recognition on Tuesday

Central Farm Markets was one of a handful of county farmers markets recognized by the County Council on Tuesday, ahead of next week’s official National Farmers Market Week.

County Councilmember Valerie Ervin (D-Silver Spring) made the proclamation this week. The Council doesn’t meet in August.

Central Farm Markets co-founder Mitch Berliner and wife Debra Moser accepted the honor on behalf of their operation, which has a Saturday market in White Flint (11806 Rockville Pike) and a Sunday market at Bethesda Elementary School (7600 Arlington Rd.).

There are almost 8,000 farmers markets listed in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s official directory, a 10 percent increase from 2011.
