The developer of a prominent corner in Woodmont Traingle is asking for the community’s patience as it completes a demolition to make way for a 17-story, 244-unit apartment building.

Chevy Chase-based developer JBG Cos. is removing pieces of the old one-story building at the corner of Fairmont and Norfolk Avenues. The developer has changed the name of the project (formerly known at 4900 Fairmont) to 7770 Norfolk Avenue, perhaps to avoid confusion with the 4990 Fairmont luxury condo project down the street.

“We have an excellent team with strong experience in this market and cutting edge architecture that has a modern aesthetic. Together, we are committed to creating a first-class property that will add to the lively residential and retail atmosphere in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle,” JBG partner Kai Reynolds said in a press release about the demolition work.

The building will include about 6,000 square feet of ground floor retail where popular restaurants such as Foong Lin once stood.

JBG is also promoting a website — Live7770.com — to provide more info and stir up interest in the apartment units.
