Arlington police reward good behavior with cool treat

WASHINGTON – Arlington County police want to make it cool for kids to behave themselves this summer, literally.

The police department will participate in the annual 7-Eleven Operation Chill program that rewards good behavior with coupons for free Sluprees at the convenience store’s Arlington locations.

Officers will pass out the coupons to children seen helping another person, wearing their bike helmet or picking up trash for example.

“These coupons provide an excellent tool for our officers to encourage responsible behavior within our community,” says Police Chief M. Douglas Scott in a statement.

Patrol officers and school resources officers will be among those looking to “ticket” good behavior. The department has participated in the program since 1995 and has passed out tens of thousands of Slurpee coupons, the department says.
