WASHINGTON – “Top Chef Masters” returns to the airwaves on Wednesday, July 24 for its fifth season, and D.C. has not just one, but two, chefs representing the area.

Bryan Voltagio of VOLT, Lunchbox and Family Meal in Frederick, Md., and Range in Friendship Heights. is returning to Bravo’s competition after being named runner-up on the sixth season of “Top Chef” in 2009.

Voltagio is the show’s first chef to compete on both “Top Chef” and “Top Chef Masters.”

Joining him in the 13-chef competition is Richard Sandoval of Sandoval Restaurants, which includes Masa 14, El Centro D.F. and Zengo, all in Northwest D.C.

In addition to winning the coveted title of “Top Chef Master,” the show’s winner also receives $100,000 for a charity of his/her choice. Voltagio’s designated charity is Share our Strength; Sandoval’s is C-CAP, or Careers Through Culinary Arts Program.

Voltagio and Sandoval join a growing list of D.C.-based chefs to compete on the show, including Carla Hall of “The Chew” and Alchemy; Spike Mendelsohn of Goof Stuff Eatery and We the Pizza; Mike Isabella of Graffiato, Bandolero, Kapnos and G Sandwich; Bart Vandaele of B Too and Belga Caf
