Rockville fireworks show abridged after technical problems

WASHINGTON – What should have been a 20-minute fireworks display at the annual Rockville Independence Day turned into a truncated show after technical difficulties.

The city issued a news release Friday that notes the technical problems began six minutes into the show.

The fireworks techs, who were unable to diagnose the problem, decided to move to the show’s three-minute finale.

“We are disappointed,” City Manager Barbara Matthews said in the release, “this is an event our community looks forward to each year, and we take pride in providing high quality celebrations in Rockville.”

The city and the vendor are investigating what caused the problem to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
