A transformer fire on one of the main electrical feeders that runs through downtown Bethesda and Chevy Chase has caused more than 1,000 Pepco customers to lose power this afternoon.

The outage also has all escalators and elevators at the Bethesda Metro station out of service, according to WMATA. The station is still open.

According to an announcement from Chevy Chase Village, the outage happened at about 3:55 p.m. Any Chevy Chase Village residents in need of air conditioning or power can go to the Village Hall.

The Pepco outage map puts the estimated time of power restoration any time from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday.
