Burger immortality at Tenleytown eating contest

WASHINGTON — Some traditions are tough to stomach. The Independence Burger Eating Championship is one of those.

Fourteen hungry competitors showed up for the 5th annual eating contest at Z-Burger in Tenleytown.

In just 10 minutes, Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti snarfed down 28 hamburgers (with buns) to blow past the previous record. Under the rules, he also had to keep them down for two minutes afterward.

He said afterwards that his immediate plans were to take Pepto-Bismol and avoid hamburgers for a while.
