Overturned sewage truck closes Georgetown Pike

WASHINGTON – An overturned truck carrying oil and human waste has closed Georgetown Pike in McLean, Va., in both directions.

Officials say the stretch, between Spring Hill Road and Centrillion Drive, could be closed through the evening Monday.

The sewage truck swerved to avoid an accident on Georgetown Pike and tipped onto its side at approximately 7:45 a.m., says Dan Schmidt, spokesman for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Management and a commercial crew has been called in to clean up the mess.

Drivers can use Old Dominion Drive as an alternate route.
