Close out June with free music events, concerts

WASHINGTON – Looking to maximize your weekend fun with some live music?

You have several options — and they’re all free.

This Friday, the Capital Fringe Festival Preview Party will feature music by Misun. The three-piece describes itself as “aquawave/emo-pop.” Whatever the genre, this is a can’t-miss band.

Expect to hear strong female vocals over a mash of electro-pop, dreamy synth hooks, and reverb-drenched guitar.

Listen to the song, “Battlefields” below.

Hill Country Barbecue is another great option for free live music. Their “Backyard Barbecue” concerts take place on the west lawn of the National Building Museum. First shows Friday and Saturday start at 5:30 p.m. with “doors” opening at noon.

Some of their free performances this weekend include Moot Davis and Scott Kurt.

Scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, the New Orchestra of Washington offers free admission to their season finale concert.

The concert will feature pieces by Mozart, Mahler and Bach.
