WASHINGTON – Metro will close at its regular time Monday night, following the Rolling Stones concert at the Verizon Center.

The Verizon Center advised Metro officials that the concert is expected to promptly begin at 8 p.m. and will end on time, so it is not necessary for stations to extend service hours past midnight.

“The Rolling Stones so far on their tour haven’t played past [midnight] in any city, so we don’t anticipate them going past Metro hours,” says Sheila Francis, the director of communications for the Verizon Center.

Last September, Madonna took the stage 2 1/2 hours late and the Verizon Center footed the bill to extend Metro service. They don’t expect that to be an issue for the Stones.

If the concert does run late, Francis says the Verizon Center will pay for any additional fees required to keep the stations open.

Metro tells WTOP they will not add extra trains Monday night.
