Man, mother-in-law killed in Fairfax County murder-suicide

WASHINGTON – Two people found dead at an apartment complex on Seminary Road Monday morning were a man and his mother-in-law, Fairfax County police say.

The two were found after police responded to the Skyline Towers apartment complex at about 10 a.m. for a report of the sound of shots fired.

Police say 36-year-old Anand Venkata, who lived at 5597 Seminary Road, shot and killed his mother-in-law, 62-year-old Lakshmi Bhat, before shooting and killing himself.

Police listed Bhat’s residence as North Carolina and said the incident was a domestic situation.

The investigation is continuing, police say, and the medical examiner’s office will make a final determination on the cause and manner of the deaths.
