New Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued

The National Weather Service has issued another Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Arlington and the rest of the metro area. Although this morning’s watch expired, the new one lasts until 7:00 p.m.

.DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT

THERE IS A RISK FOR A SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EVENT THIS
AFTERNOON…WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS AS
WELL AS LARGE HAIL AND A FEW TORNADOES.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING FOR THE
OUTLOOK AREA. SEE WBCFFALWX FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER
AND MARYLAND CHESAPEAKE BAY TODAY. A GALE WARNING IS IN EFFECT
TONIGHT.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY

A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE WATERS FRIDAY MORNING
AND EARLY FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

Many events and activities have been cancelled for this afternoon and evening in light of the storms, including those listed below:

  • Arlington Public Schools after school activities and late buses
  • Rosslyn Farmers Market and Lunchtime Concert
  • Pentagon Row’s “Rock at the Row” concert
  • Shirlington’s “Shirlala Music Festival”
