More women than men live in the District

WASHINGTON – If it seem like the District is dominated by women, it is.

When it comes to residents, D.C. has a higher percentage of women than any state.

About 52.3 percent of the city’s residents are women, according to census data released Thursday, The Washington Examiner reports.

Many are drawn to the city for employment, the president of the Washington Area Women’s Foundation tells the Examiner. She says the median income for women in the Washington area is $51,000, compared to $35,500 nationally.

In Maryland, 51.6 percent of the residents are women.
